A Bit About Me

Jeff Young, EdD(c) (Kinesiology), MS (Exercise & Sport Science), Medical Fitness Association Fellow (FMFA), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), ACSM-EIM works primarily in medical fitness, and has worked at high-performance facilities such as Duke University, UCLA, and Beth Israel Medical Centers, and as the founding fitness coordinator and faculty practice provider at Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Center for Health and Healing in New York City – the most comprehensive urban-based academic integrative medicine and medical fitness facility in the U.S. at the time. Jeff was also the recipient of the Medical Fitness Association's Educator of the Year award in 2025 and the Alumni Recognition Award in 2024 - the highest award given by the Penn State University College of Health and Human Development Alumni Society.

 

In addition to serving as CEO of the Medicine-Rehab-Fitness Institute, Jeff runs a New York City–based company that delivers and manages medical fitness and post-rehabilitation services at a clinical facility in Manhattan. Some additional roles and positions include:

  • Adjunct lecturer at CUNY York College in Queens, NY (teaching strength & conditioning, sports medicine & rehabilitation, exercise prescription for special populations, nutrition & health, and a weight training activity course).

  • Subject Matter Expert, Consultant, and Lecturer for Point Loma Nazarene University Masters of Integrative Wellness Program (WEL 6077)

  • Founder and Director of the New York State Physical Activity Coalition ("New York Moves") - a state-level implementation of the Physical Activity Alliance' National Physical Activity Plan.

  • Board of Directors, Treasurer, US Registry of Exercise Professionals (USREPs), representing the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

  • Developed the "Fundamentals of Medical Fitness" course - an accredited, 18-module, university-level medical fitness curriculum for clinicians and certified fitness professionals. Contributing authors include Dr. Jon Bonnet, MD (co-author of the Fundamentals of Medical Fitness textbook), Dr. Andrew Mock, MD, Dr. Thomas Hammett, DPT, David Flench (president/CEO of the Medical Fitness Association), and Sheila Hautbois, PA-C.

  • Consultant and educator for several medical clinics, organizations, societies and healthcare technology companies across the U.S.

  • Co-host of The Medical Fitness Podcast.

  • Host of the Successful Weight Loss Success Stories Podcast.

  • Former President of the American College of Sports Medicine’s Greater New York Regional Chapter.

  • Founding and current chair of the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Special Populations SIG.

  • Chair, Medical Fitness Association's Northeast Region.

  • Unit author, American College of Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum (implemented at over 450 residency programs across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico).

  • Subject matter expert, selected to develop and lead the exercise component of LNG Canada’s (a $40 billion clean energy corporation) lifestyle medicine-based corporate health program.

  • Founding chair of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s Fitness and Medicine MIG.

  • Medical fitness content contributor for the American Physical Therapy Association's Health Promotion and Wellness Council.

  • Continuing education provider for the National Strength and Conditioning Association, American College of Sports Medicine, and the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
