Alexys Benitez Biography 

Alexys Benitez is an Exercise Physiologist and a doctoral student in Health Sciences specializing in clinical exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and telehealth-based interventions. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Science with a concentration in Exercise and Sport Science at Liberty University. She holds dual master’s degrees in Human Performance with concentrations in Clinical Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science with a minor in Spanish.

She also served as a Research Exercise Physiologist contractor for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at the Institute for Medical Research. In this role, she supported geriatric and preventive health research initiatives through patient screening, survey administration, exercise program development, data analysis, and dissemination of research findings. Her work contributed to the promotion of physical activity, functional assessment, and program evaluation for veteran populations.

Alexys has extensive experience across clinical, research, and remote healthcare settings. She previously worked at Duke University Medical Center, where she conducted diagnostic and metabolic stress testing, supported nuclear and echocardiography services, analyzed ambulatory cardiac monitoring data, and collaborated closely with cardiologists and multidisciplinary care teams to ensure patient safety and high-quality cardiovascular assessment.

Her professional interests include tele-prehabilitation, cardiac and geriatric populations, health behavior change, and improving access to evidence-based exercise interventions in rural and underserved communities. Alexys is an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist and an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine. She is fluent in English and Spanish and is committed to advancing patient-centered, accessible, and data-driven approaches to clinical exercise.
